I agree completely – with everything. Great place, food is yummy. Breakfast is mediocre. Service is often beyond horrible! Always has been. I lived two blocks from there over ten years ago before it was actually a restaurant. They only served sandwiches – service was crap then. There are a couple of good waitstaff that, if you are lucky enough to get them, will really improve your experience. Keep up the accurate reviews!

I like when the train comes by the 5th St Corn also. It’s about 6 inches from the windows.

Service-wise, it’s OK there. Not great, but for sure better than the bizarre attitude at 17th Street.

Geology rocks. I geddit. This joke has probably been done to death in the geology community.

I have also had some bad experiences at the 17th st location. A particular waitress there gets very snippy about making couples sit at the high tables. But I am uncomfortable on those high seats! 5th st location is MUCH better.

I’m totally done with the 17th street location. The 5th street Corn is much nicer, and the service is better. Not sure if it is possible to steal beers from the 5th street location though…

I had a similar experience buying bread from New Day Bakery (aka New World Cafe) one time. I picked up the bread from the shelf and stood at the counter. Someone walked out from the kitchen, looked at me, and walked away. Then someone else did the same. Then another. Finally I just left the money on the counter, probably to be stolen by the next stranger who walked in the front door (plenty of strangers in that neighborhood!). Now that I think about it, I like your “teaching moment” approach better.

FYI, those photos of “happier-than-you strangers” are actually former — and I think some current — employees. And if you go there regularly they do get to know your name. As for service, yes, spotty, I agree. I went in there the other day just to buy a couple of beers from the cooler — to take to go. They used to have a friendlier set up for this — in fact, Cornucopia used to be a little grocery store when the current owners first bought it. The store aspect has gradually eroded over the past 10 years. But I still go there to buy a bottle of beer or wine now and then. I went to the bar to pay. No bartender. He finally showed up looked at me and then walked away. He didn’t return so I eventually just took my beers and left. Thanks for the free beer!

I got one of their coupons in the newspaper today and was shocked to see that you are right. It expires in three days! That’s crazy. Why do they make them so short? I can’t think of any logical reason to make them so short. I guess they think I am going to rush in to use it before it expires, but in reality, I am simply annoyed and don’t bother saving it since it will probably be expired by the time I get around to visiting the restaurant. I think they have really over thought this one.

I have eaten salads for years at Corn and never had a problem with getting sick afterwards.

Love their fish n’ chips. I wish it was halibut though instead of cod. Steelhead is also a good alternative.
