Went searching for a cool little cafe along Highway 58 last week and decided to try out the cafe attached to Dexter Lake Club from the movie Animal House (“Otis, my man!”). Bad news…The cafe has moved, and the club is closed (you can buy the club including building and land for $355K). Maybe good news…The cafe has relocated to nearby Main Street in Lowell.
OK, so I’m going to keep it short and sweet on this one, mainly because the cafe and the entire town of Lowell are breathtakingly boring.
Decor: The cafe is newly renovated and thus pretty clean and nice looking inside, albeit definitely lacking in some personality.
Service: Good service from the tan waitress in shorts and tank top despite the air conditioner blasting at -30 degrees.
Burger: The regular burger was nice, but needs a better quality, less-Wonder-Bread-ish, bun. Nothing tremendous, but a solid performer. Mine came with pasta salad that was shockingly NOT overcooked. (Everybody knows that these types of cafes always overcook their pasta…something to do with them growing up thinking that Spaghetti-O’s is actually pasta.)
Club Sandwich: Nice thick-sliced bread, but again, it’s a little too “Wonderful”. The fillings include a slice of processed American cheese and processed Swiss cheese. Not sure whether the plastic wrapping had been taken off these cheese slices. Probably doesn’t really matter though. Same taste. Overall, the sandy was a big “meh”.
Carrot Cake: Awesome.
Lowell: Boring little town that’s WAY underperforming in terms of attractiveness, layout, marketing, and quality of life…especially considering their awesome proximity to Dexter Lake.
Summary: Best restaurant in all of Lowell, OR…which is not saying much.
